PRIVACY STATEMENT

Your civic identity deserves careful protection.

True Democracy is an independent, nonpartisan civic-engagement service. This statement explains what information we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

We collect your name, email address, Colorado residential address, the type of Colorado credential you hold, the legislative districts and county matched to your address, consent records, advisory responses to legislation, and account security information such as verification and session records.

We do not currently ask for or store your driver’s-license or state-ID number or image. If credential verification is added later, we will update this statement and explain the verification provider and data flow before asking you to participate.

How we use information

• Create and protect your account.
• Confirm your email and match your address to federal and state legislative districts and county boundaries.
• Show the elected officials who represent your address.
• Enforce one advisory response per account and calculate constituency-level totals.
• Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
• Comply with law and enforce our Terms.

Advisory responses to legislation

You may express support or opposition about imported federal, state, or county measures, including active and completed legislation. These selections can reveal political opinions and are linked internally to your account to prevent duplicate responses. We store a snapshot of your matched congressional district, Colorado House district, Colorado Senate district, and county with each response so future aggregate reporting uses the constituency you belonged to when responding.

You may change or remove a response. Public breakdowns are suppressed until at least five participants have responded to a measure. True Democracy does not provide representatives, campaigns, advertisers, or other users with an individual-level list of your selections. Aggregate totals may eventually be shared with relevant representatives and the public.

Service providers and disclosures

We use service providers for email delivery, hosting, database, security, legislative information, and government address-to-district matching. They may process information only to provide those services under their applicable terms. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of an organizational transaction with appropriate safeguards and notice.

No sale or targeted advertising

We do not sell personal data. We do not use identity, address, or civic-participation data for targeted advertising. We do not permit political campaigns to buy user lists.

Retention and security

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes above, security, dispute resolution, and legal obligations. We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no online service can promise absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You may change or remove individual advisory responses from the legislation explorer, delete your account and its responses through account settings, or ask to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of your personal information. Where applicable, you may also appeal a denied privacy request or opt out of covered sale, targeted advertising, or profiling uses. Because we do not currently perform those uses, there is nothing to opt out of today. Email privacy@truedemocracy.us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before completing it.

Age, changes, and contact

The service is for people age 18 or older and is not directed to children. We may update this statement as the service changes; material updates will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, direct notice. Questions can be sent to privacy@truedemocracy.us.
